About

My life is surrounded by art. Art has shaped and influenced me in several ways, probably way beyond what I can understand and explain. Way before I could explain thoughts or feelings I remember music and pictures and drawings. I remember art bringing colour and passion and fun into my world.
My dad worked in a radio station, so I use to spend a lot of time going through the radio records and picking my favourites; apparently I had an early passion for rock… I remember the afternoon movies; the stories, the heroes, the laughter. I remember the early feeling that even when things weren’t perfect the movies made me feel like they were going to be OK. I remember going to the cinema with my dad, his big hand holding mine and the sense of excitement that I could hardly contain: we were going to watch Superman (did I just give away a clear idea of my age there???). The movement, the colour, the story, the voices… they are as clear today as they were then. I remember being 12 and going to a theatre with my mum for the first time; the actors on stage and the sense of pure beauty that I had there, the passion and the desire of one day being there with them. I remember going slightly against my will to go to the theatre to watch ballet and trying hard not to show that I was actually enjoying it (once again my mum’s memory comes to help me that I had a crush for a ballerina. Years later I fell for another dancer and now I call her my wife!)
Art was and is everywhere. Inspiring, changing, challenging, teaching, entertaining… taking us to a special place where dreams and passions still have a voice even in the midst of our business, seriousness, struggles and challenges. Art speaks about the deepest part of our soul. Every work of art is a work of faith…
It hurts me to no end when I realize how art is also being used to destroy the soul it should inspire. When I see the degradation, the stealing of dignity and value, the killing of hope and joy, the invitation to be less, to conform, to forget what life is truly about. I devoted many years of my life to use arts to share the most important message I ever knew: the message about a living, transforming, loving God. The story of the God who gave his life for me. I performed in streets, in schools, in churches, in parks, in parties. Even during the Olympic Games in Sydney and the soccer World Cup in Germany (an impossible dream that a Latin boy dared to dream, but that’s another story). I performed in different countries and continents, to 10 people or 10.000 people, to many different cultures and people groups, and there’s one thing I know: God used our art to speak to all of them. Through our dance, our dramas, our music, our stories, God found a way to reach their hearts and share his love.
And that’s why we run the Movement DTS: to pass the torch, to share our walk and prepare others to take it forward. Movement speaks about energy, about leaving a place and going to another, about using our body; but it also speaks about believing in a cause, about buying into a challenge, into advocating, living and experiencing something bigger than ourselves.
Art that affects the world.
A movement that changed the world and needs to be shared in a new light.
And us right in the middle of the storm seeing a new world, a new life, a new reality coming out of it.
This is a call to warriors and poets. A challenge for worshipers that sing with a sword in their hands. For dancers that can dance in stages or streets, in palaces or slums. For actors ready to live a story and to perform the story.
If you want to experience 6 months that will change your life, you found your place; now come and live it!
